Description Historical notes The Hotel Accademia is located in an old building dating back to the 14th century, once the home of Bernardo Cennini, a famous goldsmith and sculptor who was born in Florence in 1415 and who worked on the creation of the wonderful Saint John's Baptistry. Cennini was one of the artists who worked on the huge Baptistry's door and on the Altar, a splendid work of art made entirely from silver (400 kilos) in Gothic-Renaissance style. Some of the items that Cennini created are now on shown in the Duomo's Museo dell'Opera. The Hotel Accademia is right in the center of the city in Via Faenza, just a short walk from the San Lorenzo Basilica and only 5 minutes from the Santa Maria Novella Station. The hotel is housed in a 14th century building that has preserved all the atmosphere and attraction of ancient Florence, with its floors in Carrara marble, wonderful artistic windows and plain furniture.
